Everyone has their way of making their searches or search engines and prefers to find cheap flights in the US or anywhere. Here, I explain some basic steps that almost any engine could apply.

Common Travel Dilemmas

The predicament of a budget traveler is a delicate dance between pursuing dreams and managing finances. Let’s explore the challenges faced by those with a thirst for adventure but limited resources who ask themselves, “How to find cheap flights to anywhere?”. We’ll debunk the myths that surround the world of cheap flights. From misconceptions about specific booking times to the idea that affordable means compromising on quality, we’ll set the record straight.

Debunking Myths: Figuring Out When to Buy

Let’s chat about some stories you might have heard about the best time to buy flight tickets – we’re here to clear up the confusion and make it all simple!

Myths about Special Days and Midnight Magic

Some folks say there are specific days or late-night hours when you should grab your flight tickets for the best prices. But, let me tell you, many of these stories are myths – like fairy tales that don’t always come true. The truth is that the only way to figure out when the flights will be cheap is just to keep an eye alert on them. These cheap flights could come anytime.

The Real Scoop on Snatching Super Deals

How to find cheap flights to anywhere? Here’s the real deal: no one-size-fits-all magic day or time. It’s more about keeping an eye on things. Prices can change anytime, and there isn’t a secret moment when all the best deals drop. We’ll talk about how to stay smart and grab those super-saver deals without worrying about the clock.

Tip #1: Begin With the Right Search Engine

I must admit I’ve been testing my cheap flight search skills and searching for cheap tickets to travel to Europe for a long time. My favorite search engines, which I use the most, are Skyscanner, Kayak, Google Flights, and Kiwi. In my case, I always start with Skyscanner since it gives the most options when you’re looking for cheap flights, such as finding flights anywhere from your home airport and the option that allows you to see when you can find the cheapest flight. The other engines I use also help me do what comes next. Let’s explore the benefits of each search engine a bit more.

Skyscanner: Discovering Many Options

Skyscanner is a top player known for uncovering a variety of flight options. Whether you’re looking for flights from your local airport or want to find the cheapest time to travel, Skyscanner has you covered.

Kayak: Easy Navigation for Affordable Flights

Kayak simplifies the process of finding affordable flights with its user-friendly interface. It not only presents you with budget-friendly options but also allows you to customize your search for the perfect balance between cost and convenience.

Google Flights: Precise and Detailed

Google Flights excels in providing precise details for finding the best deals. It goes beyond the basics, offering flexibility with dates and insights into the most cost-effective routes. Google Flights ensures you find not just any flight but the right one.

Kiwi: Exploring Different Routes for Savings

Kiwi is for those seeking adventure and savings. It stands out by presenting options from low-cost airlines and suggesting unconventional layovers. While it adds a bit of complexity, the potential for savings makes the exploration worthwhile.

Tip #2: Compare Search Engines

Kiwi - Buscadores de Vuelo - Google Flights - Pasajes Aéreos Baratos -

Usually, I compare all the prices in all my search engines. For example, in Kiwi‘s case, this one always brings up really good prices because it shows results that include low-cost airlines, creating its layovers plus some difficulties making these layovers long sometimes. When you search and compare with other search engines, you can consider facts such as if it is worth buying a Kiwi cheap flight with all its difficulties or if it is better to pay a little more for your comfort.

Kiwi is a bit different. It can find cheap flights, but it might come with challenges. It’s like choosing a bumpy road instead of a smooth one. We’ll help you decide if the savings are worth dealing with these quirks. Sometimes, paying a bit more means more comfort. It’s like choosing between a regular bus and a comfy one with air conditioning. We’ll help you decide if spending some extra money for comfort is right for you.

Tip #3: Subscribing to Price Alerts

Alertas de Precios - Pasajes Aéreos Baratos -

Ever wish someone could tell you when prices drop for things you want to buy? Well, price alerts are like having that someone for your flights! They’re notifications that say, “Hey, the price just got lower!” This helps to record the best time to buy this flight. Some myths say you should buy on specific days, weeks, or months to get a cheap flight.

Tip #4: Flexibility Is the Key!

Skyscanner - Buscadores de Vuelo -

Imagine having a button that says “Anywhere.” That’s what some travel sites offer! It means you can explore different places without a set plan. It’s like saying, “Surprise me!” We’ll show you how this option can lead to exciting, budget-friendly trips.

Among the alternatives that search engines such as Google Flights, Kayak, Skyscanner, and Kiwi offer are ways to make your dates or destination flexible. This is one of the reasons why I prefer Skyscanner. On this engine, if I want to find a destination just because I want to travel, I don’t know where I can use the “Anywhere” option and the “Cheapest Month” option to find results that help save a lot of money. This is like choosing when to go to a big sale – you want the lowest prices!

I always advise that if you have some particular dates to travel but haven’t figured out your destination, use the “Anywhere” option on Skyscanner to know how to maximize your options and save. In the other case, if you have a dream destination you want to visit, you can use the “Cheapest Month” option to find out when the cheapest time to travel there. Doing this lets you make an effective saving plan once you have those cheap tickets.

Tip #5: Sign In to the Airlines Newsletter and Miles Programs

Newsletter Air France - Pasajes Aéreos Baratos -

Ever signed up for a newsletter? Airlines send out emails with special deals just for their subscribers. It’s like being part of a club where only members get the coolest stuff. We’ll guide you on how to join this club and snag those exclusive offers.

Airlines have new deals to different destinations every day. If you sign in to their newsletters, or even better, to their miles programs, you will be able to receive all the offers and will have more opportunities to find good cheap flights. Doing this will always update you on how to earn miles that help you travel for less or get upgrades for your flights.

Miles Programs: Turning Loyalty into Affordable Adventures

Here’s a cool trick – the more you fly with a particular airline, the more they give back to you. It’s like collecting points for being a loyal customer. We’ll explore how these “Miles Programs” can turn your loyalty into affordable adventures. If you ask yourself “how to find cheap flights to anywhere”, airline miles will always allow you to find those cheap flights.

My favorite airline miles programs are those from Avianca, Delta, United, Air France, and Brussels Airlines (part of the Miles and More programs shared with other airlines). Let’s explore in deep some of these programs.

Avianca LifeMiles

Avianca LifeMiles is like a secret passage to affordable journeys. We’ll guide you through how this program lets you explore new places without emptying your wallet. It also has Club Lifemiles, a monthly subscription that deposits miles your way each month. Avianca Lifemiles allows you also to travel with other Star Alliance airlines.

Delta Skymiles

Delta SkyMiles is your ticket to soaring through the skies with added perks. Delta SkyMiles is a program that allows you to collect miles in several ways such as American Express cards, Shopping Websites, and even buying Starbucks coffee. These miles allow you also to fly in other SkyTeam airlines.

It’s like turning your loyalty into an artist’s brush, creating memorable and budget-friendly travel experiences.

Flying Blue is a program that allows you to redeem miles on Air France or KLM, and they also work in many other airlines across SkyTeam.

Success Stories

Let’s get in deep with my success stories on finding cheap flights to anywhere!

So, I was planning to fly from Barcelona to San Juan, Puerto Rico. And guess what? I found this super affordable roundtrip ticket – only 399€! And here’s the fun part: I bought it on a Friday night! Some people say Fridays are not the best for buying tickets, but I defied that myth and got the sweetest deal. I’ll spill the beans on how I did it, and it involves a handy tool called Skyscanner’s price alerts.

Here’s another cool story: I wanted to go from Guatemala to Bogotá, Colombia. And guess what? I only had to pay taxes for the flight! Yes, you heard it right – just the taxes. How did I swing this? Well, it’s all thanks to a clever move using Avianca LifeMiles.

Navigating Advances Tactics

Okay, let’s talk about some next-level tricks like having a secret map to even better deals – and the best part is that it’s not as complicated as it sounds!

Unveiling Hidden City Ticketing: Finding Clever Layovers

Picture this: there’s a clever way to discover flights with layovers that can save you money. It’s like taking a scenic detour to uncover a better deal. This nifty trick is known as hidden city ticketing. We’ll unravel the magic behind it, showing you how it can add an extra layer of affordability to your flights.

  • Example: Imagine you want to fly from A to B, but booking a flight from A to C with a layover at B is cheaper. You get off at B; voila, you have a money-saving strategy!

The Risks and Rewards: Understanding the Complexities

Now, every fantastic trick comes with its own set of twists and turns. We’re talking about the risks and rewards – it’s like knowing the ups and downs of a thrilling roller coaster ride. We’ll break down the complexities, helping you decide whether these advanced tactics align with your travel style and preferences.

  • Example: While hidden city ticketing can save you money, it might have some downsides, like the risk of missing your connecting flight if it’s not the final destination. We’ll guide you in making informed decisions.

Do I Recommend This Technique?

Although many creators would recommend this as a legit technique, I would not get into this and risk being blacklisted by any airline. How to find cheap flights to anywhere? I think the best way to go is tracking flights and collecting miles.

FAQ on Cheap Flights

Airlines don’t like skiplagging because it’s like playing a game they didn’t agree to. When you skiplag, you book a cheaper flight with a layover but plan to get off at the layover instead of the final destination. Airlines prefer passengers to follow the agreed-upon route, and skiplagging can mess up their plans. It’s kind of like buying a ticket to a concert but leaving before the main act – it’s not what they expected!

Finding the cheapest flying places can be a bit like a treasure hunt. It depends on factors like the time of year, airline deals, and current events. Websites like Skyscanner or Kayak can help you explore affordable destinations. It’s like having a map that shows you where the travel treasures are now. Check these tools, and you might discover a budget-friendly adventure!

The cheapest day to fly can be tricky to pinpoint because it changes. It’s like asking when the store has the biggest sale – it varies. But often, flying on Tuesdays or Wednesdays can be more budget-friendly because these days are not too busy in airports. Tools like Skyscanner or Google Flights can help you determine the most affordable days for your trip. It’s like having a price-checker for your travel days!

Yes, Skyscanner is legitimate and widely used to find affordable flights. It’s like a trusty guide in your quest for budget-friendly travel. Skyscanner searches through many airlines and travel sites to show you different options. It’s like having a friend who knows all the secret paths to the best deals. Many people use it and find great flights, making their travel dreams come true without breaking the bank.

Thank you for sharing these tips and tricks, a great beginners guide to cheap flights! Sometimes I do struggle with this myself too.

  • June 3, 2017

The tips I have: 1)follow all of the cheap flights bloggers on Facebook, who post about error fares and act fast! 2)use Matrix to find other dates except for the announced ones 3)check kayak, momondo, tripadvisor for seeing if there are any credit card promotions (sometimes can save up to $30 on every ticket, if you have that particular credit card).
That’s what I do, and I went from Europe to India for $145 return and Europe to Palau for $300 return 🙂 If you are flexible about where to go, you can find amazing deals!

  • June 3, 2017

These are great tips! I’ve found it to be especially important to be flexible when travelling because the day you fly out/in really does matter in price!

  • June 3, 2017

Great tips! I also always start on Skyscanner. I never followed the advice to buy flights on a particular day – I find it varies a lot! I usually buy rather late, sometimes I get a good last minute price, other times not so much even if I buy early – it really depends! Also, changes in the high or low season…

  • June 3, 2017

I’m not a traveler so I have no idea if this is true, but I’ve heard that the more often you check the prices of a flight, the higher they’ll go. I’ve also heard things like, they’re cheapest like, three Tuesdays beforehand or something ridiculous like that. I’m glad you cleared some of it up! Reading blogs meant to make travel easier always makes me feel like packing a bag right now 🙂

Smart tips Brenda. Flexibility is a biggie. My travel agent aka wide is super flexible in checking different sites, and also in doing the layover bit. As am I. We just scored a sweet deal on tickets from NYC JFK to Bangkok.

Nice tips for getting flight tickets at a low cost, I personally think that the best way to get more offers it’s if you subscribe to the newsletter of the airlines to know when there it’s going to be the days of low prices!
