Best Places for Solo Christmas Travel in 2026
Overcoming the stigma of spending Christmas alone can be challenging. Society often emphasizes togetherness during the holidays, making solo travelers feel out of place. However, traveling alone can be an empowering and fulfilling experience. It’s about redefining what celebrating and finding joy in your company means.

I asked fellow travelers about the best places for solo Christmas travel. They chose some places and why you should consider them for your next trip.
Rothenburg, Germany
[Angie – We’re Not in Kansas Anymore]

Rothenburg is one of Germany’s best-preserved and most beautiful medieval towns and one of the best places for solo Christmas travel. The tiny village in Bavaria draws crowds worldwide to see its half-timbered houses, crooked cobblestone streets, and well-preserved medieval town wall. It just happens to be one of my favorite places on planet Earth. Rothenburg takes on an extraordinary magic around the Christmas season. The town dons its finest décor with cut trees and sparkling lights around every corner.
The traditional German Christmas market is one of Germany’s most popular. A giant Christmas tree-studded town square is home to wooden stalls selling handmade goods and aromatic market food. I like to say that it’s Christmas all year in Rothenburg; in addition to a Christmas Museum, the town is home to the original Käthe-Wohlfahrt store, one of the biggest Christmas stores in the world. Some of the most popular things to do in town include the Crime and Punishment Museum, wandering the storybook lanes, and the Nightwatchman tour.
Germany has a very low crime rate, and the tourist core of the old town is highly safe for solo travel. The easiest way to get to Rothenburg is by car or by train. My favorite place to stay in Rothenburg is Historik Hotel Gotisches Haus Garni, a 700-year-old guest house decorated in a fabulous old-world style. It’s just steps from the town’s main attractions.
Vienna, Austria
[Sabrina – Shades of Summer]

Vienna is one of the best places for solo Christmas travel. One of the oldest and most beautiful Christmas markets is located in Vienna, making the visit extra special throughout December.
However, it is not only the Christmas markets that attract visitors to Vienna each year—there is much more to do. Historical palaces from the Imperial era are one of Vienna’s coolest places. Schönbrunn Palace, Belvedere Palace and the Hofburg. They all house beautiful museums that will take you on a historical journey to learn about Austria in the past.
The best way to get to Vienna is by airplane. Vienna International Airport is just outside the city center and can be reached by train.
The Christmas markets in Vienna in winter are extremely special. The biggest one is on Town Hall Square, but there are many smaller, more charming markets throughout the city. Just wander through the city center and stumble across a market at every corner.
When booking your hotel in Vienna, stay in the historical city center. This is the safest part of the city, perfect for solo travelers. I always stay at Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof for luxury and safety.
Athens, Greece
[Nofar – Traveling Outside the Box]

Athens has many markets, graffiti areas, modern and trendy cafes, excellent food, kind people, and great weather. I visited it at Christmas and enjoyed the atmosphere. There were many decorations all over the city.
Athens is one of the best places for solo Christmas travel and a great romantic destination in Greece because there is a lot to do and many tours where you will meet more people. Taxis are cheap, and it is very easy to get around the city.
Little Kook Cafe is a legendary cafe with decadent desserts that will be even more impressive at Christmas. The local food market is the Dimotiki Agora, which has fruits, vegetables, olives, cheeses, spices, and more. The Monastiraki Flea Market is about a 10-minute walk from the food market, and there you will find lots of shops with souvenirs, bags, clothes, local products, and more.
Wander in the Psiri area, which has whole streets with beautiful graffiti, and of course, don’t miss the Acropolis.
Especially for Christmas, it is recommended to go to Syntagma Square, where the biggest Christmas tree is. In Omonia Square, the Christmas Market and the Christmas Factory also have games, gifts, an amusement park, an ice rink, shows, Christmas stories, workshops, and food stalls.
The Brown Acropol Hotel is an excellent hotel for solo travelers. It is in a central location and has single rooms. I also traveled alone in Berlin and enjoyed it very much.
Seoul, South Korea
[Alex – Adventure to Every Country]

Seoul is one of the best places for solo Christmas travel if you want to experience something a little different. Even with only a day in Seoul, you can see a lot.
The South Korean capital is a massive city famous for traditional Korean attractions such as Gyeongbokgung Palace and Hanok villages, including Bukchon and Ikseondong.
Unless coming from East Asia (where you may fly to Gimpo Airport), the easiest way to get there is by flying to Incheon Airport, Korea’s main international transport hub, and taking a 45-minute express train to Seoul Station.
Seoul is great for solo travelers as it is very safe and easy to get around with the metro system.
Gyeongbokgung Palace is the marquee attraction, a sprawling complex of iconic Korean-style buildings once home to the royal family. Other Korean palaces, such as Changgyeonggung Palace, are nearby.
Seoul is also home to some incredible Buddhist temples, such as Jogyesa Temple, near most of the attractions in northern Seoul, and Bongeunsa Temple in Gangnam.
The major tourist hub in Seoul is called Myeongdong, which is right in the center. Myeongdong is home to many vibrant street markets offering Korean and international foods.
Myeongdong is also the place to be for a festive atmosphere in Seoul. Outside the Lotte Mall, there are several impressive decorations, including a large tree. But perhaps the most iconic Christmas spot is Shinsegae Department Store, with a large screen displaying a 4D video of Santa flying on his sleigh.
Gwanghwamun Square (outside Gyeongbokgung Palace) has also recently started hosting annual Christmas markets.
Myeongdong is the best place to stay in Seoul because it is near all the major activities and has easy access to the city, including the airport.
The Maldives
[GoSeeLearn]

The Maldives is an Indian Ocean archipelago of over 1,000 islands, although only a tiny portion is inhabited or used for tourism. The country’s turquoise waters, white sand beaches, and colorful sea life have likely graced your Instagram feed.
While Islam is the state religion of the Maldives, Christmas is celebrated on many resort islands, as many travelers choose to spend the holiday in the tropical paradise.
While it’s not easy to arrive in the Maldives from some places in the world (lookin’ at you, USA), it’s worth the long journey! It would be best to fly into Malé International Airport (Velana International Airport, MLE). Depending on your resort’s distance from Malé, you’ll take a seaplane flight, domestic flight, speedboat, or a combination of them to arrive at your island resort.
Once on your island, you’ll be spoiled with choices of how to spend your Christmas holiday, including:
- Relaxing on the white sand beaches, book in hand
- Snorkeling with colorful fish, sharks, turtles, and rays
- Heading out on boat excursions to fish or watch dolphins play
- Sampling delicious foods at your island’s restaurants
- Indulging in luxurious spa services
And, you can decide if you want to branch out and socialize with others at restaurants, bars, and on excursions or if you’d like to enjoy your solitary time in the island paradise.
While the Maldives doesn’t have snow or Christmas markets, many resorts splash out with plenty of holiday cheer, including themed dinners, Christmas lights and decorations, and visits from Santa Claus. This makes it one of the best places for solo Christmas travel.
For a fabulous Christmas experience and an all-around fabulous Maldives resort, stay at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi in the Noonu Atoll, a 45-minute seaplane flight from Malé. If you are traveling solo, I also suggest staying at The Standard.
Madeira, Portugal
[Sonia – Carey On Travels]

Madeira, Portugal, is a wonderful year-round destination made even more special as one of the best places for solo Christmas travel. Though it’s part of Portugal, Madeira is 300 miles off the coast of Morocco in the Atlantic Ocean. It’s known for its lush landscapes, spectacular beaches, hiking, and vibrant culture. A trip to the “Island of eternal springtime” offers a peaceful solo retreat coupled with the holiday season’s festive cheer.
December is one of the best times to visit Madeira, when the streets of Funchal, Madeira’s capital, are decorated with dazzling lights. Don’t miss visiting the Aldeia de Natal, a Christmas village in the Jardim Municipal Park. The Mercadinho de Natal (Christmas market) offers local wares and festive foods and is a great place to try Poncha (rum drink). The season’s highlight is Noite do Mercado on December 23rd, where old town Funchal becomes a hub of shopping, Christmas Carols, and celebrating. Plan to stay through New Year’s Eve, when Madeira hosts one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the world!
Hiking on a levada walk is an iconic Madeiran experience. These irrigation channels offer scenic mountain paths, many with breathtaking views. If venturing out solo, stick to well-trodden paths, or join a guided tour to meet other travelers and learn more about the island.
Direct flights to Funchal and Madeira are available from major European cities. Upon arrival, rent a car or use the efficient bus service and taxis to get to your accommodation. The Santa Maria Hostel in Funchal is ideal for solo travelers. It is in a central and renovated school building and offers dorm rooms, private rooms, common areas, and an outdoor terrace with a social vibe.
Lisbon, Portugal
[Marga – Discover Portugal]

Portugal has been one of the safest countries in the world for years, making it much loved by solo travelers! And yes, it is also one of the best places for solo Christmas travel. You can easily travel around cities like Lisbon, and there is a never-ending list of things to see and do.
With lovely weather, even the winter months are a fantastic time to travel. It’s quieter than summer, and the prices, especially for hotels, tend to drop. The best month? December, as Lisbon is sparkling with Christmas decorations!
There are direct flights to Lisbon from many airports worldwide. After seeing the most famous sights, such as the Jerónimos Monastery and the Santa Justa Lift, it’s time to visit some of the Christmas markets in Lisbon—and there are plenty to choose from!
One of the largest is Wonderland Lisboa. This Christmas market is free to enter and near Marques de Pombal Square. Rossio Square also has a lovely market with many stalls where you can grab a bite to eat or find local handicrafts.
Downtown Lisbon is lovely, and all Christmas markets are within easy reach. Look around Avenida da Liberdade, for example, or Praça do Comércio. Alfama is the oldest part of town and is tranquil at night. You can also venture to Bairro Alto for its vibrant nightlife or the popular neighborhood of Príncipe Real.
Paris, France
[Amber – Amber Everywhere]

Paris is one of Europe’s most iconic cities and one of the best places for solo Christmas travel. The city boasts streets full of glittering decorations, festive holiday markets, and timeless charm. In Paris, you can see some of the most iconic sights in the world, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Arc de Triomphe.
When you’re in Paris, spend some time experiencing the city’s fabulous nightlife and exploring its most iconic museums. For some holiday spirit, head to the Galeries Lafayette, where the grand department store’s interior transforms into a winter wonderland. Don’t miss a photo from the top floor, adorned with blue and green lights.
Of course, you’ll also want to see some of the city’s iconic Christmas Markets. One of the biggest and most central markets is the Tuileries Garden near the Louvre Museum. You can find artisan French foods, gifts, an ice skating rink, and a Ferris Wheel there.
Paris is easily accessible via Charles de Gaulle Airport and Orly Airport. You can easily take public transport from either airport to almost anywhere in Paris.
For a comfortable stay with an extra bit of charm, book a room at the Hôtel des Arts Montmartre, near the iconic Sacre-Coeur Basilica. Its artfully decorated rooms and location in the heart of one of Paris’ most beautiful and trendy neighborhoods make it perfect for solo travelers.
Antigua
[Sara – Big Adventures with Little Feet]

If you’re looking for one of the best places for solo Christmas travel, I recommend a trip to the beautiful island of Antigua. For starters, it has over 365 beaches to choose from. As well as beaches there are loads of other fun activities and attractions to enjoy, our favourite is Stingray City where you can snorkel with wild stingrays. And if you’re keen to make new friends, Antigua is extremely friendly, too; we live there in the winter and often make new friends on the beach.
It’s easy to get to Antigua as direct flights are from the US, Canada, and most of Europe. Most large cruise ship companies also head there on their own routes. If you’re traveling solo, then an area called English Harbor is a great part of the island on which to be based. It’s central to most of the main things to do in Antigua, it has some amazing swimming and snorkeling (you’re bound to see turtles at Galleon Bay), and some popular beaches and bars are easy to get to. We recommend staying at St James Club or Antigua Yacht Club Marina Resort.
In the run-up to Christmas, there are always lots of events happening, such as Christmas markets, carol-singing services, and street parties. Celebrating the sun might be different, but they know how to celebrate. A good place to watch Christmas events is at the 268 Brewery, as they host several Christmas markets and parties during the festive season, and everyone is very welcoming. And if you decide to visit for Christmas Day, the main celebration is at Nelson’s Dockyard at about 1 pm, when everyone gathers for a massive party until late into the night!
Prague, Czechia
[Samantha – CocoTravels]

The Central European city of Prague is the capital of Czechia, one of the best places for solo Christmas travel, and the largest city in the country. It’s rich in history, home to beautiful architecture, and has some of the best beer in Europe, if not the world.
There are abundant things to see in Prague, including the famous Astronomical Clock in the Old Town Square. It’s the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still operating. It has four moving automations and rotating statues of the 12 apostles, and it’s a stunning sight.
Prague is very well connected to the rest of Europe. From the UK, it’s a short flight of under two hours. Budget airlines offer flights from most major UK airports. Prague is also easy to get to from other European cities, with a central train station and bus routes.
Prague’s Christmas Market is open daily in Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square in the city’s center. In this winter wonderland, traditional wooden huts sell local handicrafts, popular Czech foods like meat dumplings or barbecued sausages, and mulled wine.
Each year, a 24-metre-high Christmas tree is transported to the city from the Liberec region. With over 10,000 LED lights, giant stars, and red and gold baubles, it’s a stunning sight against the city’s backdrop.
Hostel Franz Kafka is a great place to stay for solo travelers to Prague. The hostel has a fantastic location in the Old Town within a short walk of the Astronomical Clock, plus plenty of bars and restaurants. The social feel of the hostel means that you can make friends with other solo travelers, and it’s cheap, too, so you’ll have more money for exploring.
Poznan, Poland
[Kizzi – Offtogetlost.com]

In western Poland, you’ll discover the charming city of Poznań, perfect for solo travelers seeking an authentic Polish experience. While it is most famous for the colorful merchant houses of Stary Rynek, there is something special about Poznań during the festive season. With ice sculpting competitions, a cozy Christmas market, and the perfect dusting of frost, it promises a Christmas holiday to remember.
At the Christmas market, enjoy traditional Polish food such as pierogi and oscypek and browse the stalls selling handmade items. Not too large, the market feels intimate and inviting, perfect for solo travelers who want to soak in the warm and festive atmosphere. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the International Ice Sculpture Festival, watch artists transform ice into beautiful, sometimes whimsical designs.
Of course, Poznań has more attractions to explore than just its festive offerings, but it is indeed one of the best places for solo Christmas travel. For a touch of history, visit HistoryLand, a museum telling the history of Poland in 1 million Lego bricks. And when you visit Stary Rynek, try to time it so you’re there at midday as crowds gather around the Town Hall to watch the two famous mechanical goats appear to mark the hour.
With its central location, Poznań is easy to reach. With its airport, you can fly to Poznań-Ławica Airport and hop on the airport bus to the city center, which takes around 25 minutes. You can also get the train from major cities nearby, like Warsaw and Berlin, both just a few hours away.
During your time in Poznań, consider staying at the PURO Hotel Poznań Stare Miasto. Just a 5-minute walk from Stary Rynek, this perfectly located hotel has modern, stylish rooms, a fitness center, and a sauna, making it a luxurious stay. However, the winter rates make it an unexpectedly affordable option during the festive season.
With its festive charm and rich history, Poznań offers an unforgettable winter escape for solo travelers in the heart of Poland.
New York City
[Janice – Where’s Janice]

Is New York city one of the best places for solo Christmas travel? Absolutely!
When I visited during the holiday, I couldn’t help but be attracted to the unique blend of festivities and urban excitement. For a memorable solo adventure, check out this 4-day Christmas itinerary in NYC to make the most of your visit.
Some of the classic things to do in New York during Christmas include ice skating in Central Park’s Wollman Rink. Imagine gliding across the ice with iconic landmarks nearby, creating a magical backdrop.
You also can’t miss the view of the Empire State Building when you’re here, so why not head to 230 Fifth Rooftop Bar for cocktails? It’s a casual rooftop bar decorated with holiday lights, and they even provide heaters and blankets for those sitting outdoors.
If you’re in the mood to shop, you’ll find unique gifts and seasonal goodies at various Christmas markets, such as Columbus Circle, Bryant Park, and Union Square. Lastly, no Christmas trip to NYC is complete without a visit to the Rockefeller Center tree. It’s a must-see that perfectly captures the holiday spirit and the lights on 5th Avenue.
To get here, fly into JFK and take a quick one-hour train ride into Manhattan. For a cozy and convenient stay, Moxy NYC Times Square is a modern mid-range choice that keeps you in the heart of all the holiday magic.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
[Penny – GlobeTrove]

Amsterdam is one of the best places for solo Christmas travel in Europe. It is super easy to get to because Amsterdam has a huge international airport that is connected to most of the other countries across the world. It also has a main train station from all over Europe. It’s also super safe, which makes it a great solo travel destination.
Now, Christmas is when the city shines. Generally, it is pretty wet and cold this time of year, so make sure you dress up warm for Amsterdam in winter.
Plenty of activities will keep you active and your days filled. The Christmas market is usually held next to the Museumplein. Make sure you grab a cup of mulled wine or a hot chocolate while you wander through the festivities.
The Amsterdam Light Festival is also set up every year around this time. The canals are lit up with different light displays, and you can take a canal cruise to see them. You could also walk along the canals. There is even an ice rink that you can head out skating on.
Amsterdam is one of the coolest places in Europe to be at Christmas. I advise staying central so you can walk to all the attractions.
Manchester, UK
[Paulina – the UK Every Day]

Manchester stands out as one of England’s largest cities and is one of the best places for solo Christmas travel. During the holiday season, the city transforms into a winter wonderland, with its renowned Christmas markets scattered throughout various locations, including Piccadilly Gardens, Exchange Square, the Corn Exchange, and King Street. Each market offers a unique atmosphere filled with festive cheer, delicious food, and handcrafted gifts, making it an ideal destination for those traveling alone.
Getting to the heart of the Manchester Christmas Markets is a breeze, especially with convenient train services. The two main train stations, Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly, are easily accessible, and travelers can enjoy a direct train ride from Manchester Airport to Manchester Piccadilly.
While wandering through the markets, take a moment to appreciate the stunning Christmas decorations adorning the city. Stop at San Carlo Italian Restaurant and Hotel Gotham to admire a Christmas grand entrance to these buildings.
CitySuites Aparthotel offers a luxurious experience just a stone’s throw from the markets for those considering an overnight stay. Alternatively, suppose you’re looking to keep your expenses in check while still enjoying the city’s vibrant atmosphere. In that case, The Mitre Hotel presents a budget-friendly option that doesn’t compromise comfort or convenience.
Banff, Canada
[Melanie – theworldtravelgirl.com]

Banff is a wonderful place to experience alone in winter and one of the best places for Christmas solo travel. The town transforms into a cozy winter wonderland, and there’s something incredibly special about exploring this stunning mountain town without a crowd.
The easiest way to get to Banff is to fly into Calgary International Airport (YYC), rent a car, and drive 1.5 hours west into the Canadian Rockies.
One of the best ways to soak up Banff’s winter charm is hiking one of the many trails, especially Tunnel Mountain. While it might not be the same as summer hiking, the winter trail offers a unique perspective of the town and surrounding mountains. Bundle up, grab some microspikes, and prepare for a rewarding trek.
After a day of exploring, treat yourself to a soak in the Banff Upper Hot Springs. There’s nothing quite like relaxing in warm mineral water while gazing at the snow-capped peaks. It’s the ultimate way to unwind after a day in the cold.
Main Street comes alive during the Christmas season. The charming shops offer unique gifts and souvenirs. Stopping at “The Spirit of Christmas” is a wonderful way to take in the Christmas season with many ornaments, decorations, and gifts at any time of the year. If your visit to Banff is towards the end of November or the beginning of December, you will be lucky enough to visit the Banff Christmas Market, which is full of vendors, music, treats, and activities.
If you are looking for a great place to stay, The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel should be your choice. This iconic castle-like hotel is decked out in holiday splendor, making it an enchanting place to visit.
Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or simply a change of scenery, Banff in winter offers the perfect escape. So, pack your warmest clothes and prepare to be enchanted by this winter wonderland.
Lyon, France
[Lisa Garrett – Travel to Lyon]

Lyon, France is one of the best places for solo Christmas travel. It’s known as the gastronomic capital of France, so you know your taste buds are in for a treat!
If you can, plan to visit around December 8th. That way, you can experience the Fête des Lumières, one of the most popular festivals in Lyon. The city’s attractions come to life with spectacular light shows, and it is truly a sight to behold! You can also pick up some special holiday gifts at Lyon’s Christmas markets (check out the market at Place Carnot).
In addition to the holiday festivities, there are of course plenty of incredible attractions to see during your trip to Lyon. Take the funicular to the top of Fourvière Hill to see the stunning basilica (and enjoy the breathtaking views of Lyon!).
Step back in time with a visit to historic Vieux Lyon. See the Roman amphitheater and explore Lyon’s traboules (secret passageways). Art lovers will enjoy spending time in the fine arts or modern art museums. Be sure to keep your eyes open to spot the incredible murals and street art that transform Lyon’s buildings into public works of art.
While there is an airport in Lyon, the easiest way for most visitors to travel to Lyon is to fly to Paris and then take the train to Lyon. It’s only a 2-hour trip via high-speed train.
Stay at the Grand Hotel des Terreaux. It’s centrally located near the Hôtel de Ville, so you can easily visit Lyon’s top attractions from this home base.
Copenhagen, Denmark
[Zhen – tjtakesthetrain.com]

Copenhagen is a beautiful city to visit throughout the year, even if you are looking to spend 3 days in Copenhagen. It is undoubtedly cold during Christmas, but the Danish hygge ethos helps you stay snug and cozy. (As do all the Glogg and Schnapps!) Moreover, the city looks amazing, lit up with all the Christmas lights, making it one of the best places for solo Christmas travel.
Some must-do activities include visiting the Broens Ice Rink, which has a gorgeous view of the Copenhagen harbor. There are also many street food stalls around the ice rink where you can refuel after the exercise. I’m normally not a huge fan of amusement parks, but there’s something magical about Tivoli Gardens during Christmas. It’s one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, and the sight of the wooden houses against over 1000 (hopefully) snow-covered, lit-up, bauble-covered trees brings one back to the magic of one’s childhood days. There’ll also be a Christmas market in the gardens, but note that you do have to pay an entrance fee to get into Tivoli.
Another unique thing to do is watch the Santa Lucia parade: lit-up kayaks float by you right in the middle of the city, and lots of singing accompany the parade. Some brave locals even take a dip into the cold waters—I’ll leave it to you to decide whether or not you want to partake in that!
The easiest way to get to Copenhagen is by plane- it’s a great weekend trip from London actually! Copenhagen International Airport is a small but very well-run and efficient airport that will take you mere minutes to whizz through. Hotels in Copenhagen aren’t cheap, so I usually stay at an Airbnb to get more space. However, when I want to splash out, I check into the small but lovely Hotel Sanders. The rooms are small, but the location is ever so central, and the interiors are gorgeous. As expected of Scandinavia!
Zermatt, Switzerland
[Lavina D’Souza – Continent Hop]

Any corner of Switzerland looks as dreamy and beautiful as possible, especially during wintertime. But when it comes to Zermatt, this resort town perched on top of the mountain deserves special mention. Everybody knows Zermatt as a perfect place for skiing and hiking. But this Swiss beauty has so much more to offer.
You can reach Zermatt by taking a flight to Zurich or Geneva. Both cities offer good air connectivity to major European cities and the rest of the world. It takes around 3 hours to reach Zermatt by train or road from Geneva. If you catch a train, you can reach Zermatt from Zurich in around 4 hours. Check out more 2-day Switzerland itineraries to experience the best of this country.
Even if skiing isn’t your forte, Zermatt has plenty to offer as one of the best places for solo Christmas travel: Lace up your hiking boots and discover the picturesque trails around the town. Winter hiking in Zermatt is a popular choice for good reason. Don’t miss the opportunity to embark on a scenic train ride to Gornergrat, home to Europe’s highest open-air cog railway, and soak in breathtaking Alps views. If you prefer indoor activities, the Matterhorn Museum – Zermatlantis and ZOOOM the Matterhorn @Gornergrat are two must-visit museums in Zermatt.
Even though there is no Christmas market in Zermatt, the town decks out well during the holiday season, the snow makes everything beautiful, and fairy lights add a magical sparkle to your solo Zermatt travel during Christmastime. Several tiny shops around the town are perfect for souvenir shopping. During Christmas, you can also visit Eglise St. Mauritius and Kirche St. Peter’s in Zermatt.
Check out Christiania Hotels & Spa in Zermatt, where you can combine adventure and leisure.
Edinburgh, Scotland
[Moumita – Chasing the Long Road]

From enjoying the vibrant festive atmosphere at the Christmas market to exploring the fascinating historical attractions, there are plenty of amazing things to do in Edinburgh for solo travelers visiting the Scottish capital city during the holiday season. This makes it one of the best places for solo Christmas travel. The city is famous for its stunning medieval architecture, narrow cobbled streets, and a dramatic castle perched over an extinct volcano. The Old and New Town of Edinburgh is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Edinburgh Christmas Market mainly occurs in the Princes Street Gardens, with various beautifully decorated stalls selling traditional crafts, gifts, and delicious treats. Visitors can enjoy a glass of hot mulled wine and various festive foods. Plus, you can participate in many fun activities, like riding on the gigantic Big Wheel and the Star Flyer, to admire a stunning view over the city skyline.
Also, Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Botanic Garden host various interesting Christmas special events. Hogmanay is an integral part of the Edinburgh Christmas Celebration. It is a three-day annual celebration from 30th December to New Year’s Day.
The market is located in the city center, within walking distance of the main bus and train station. Local bus and tram services easily reach it.
The Rutland Hotel and Apartments would be an excellent choice for staying in this magical city. You would get an excellent view of Edinburgh Castle. Also, it’s very close to the Christmas markets.

One of the most magical destinations to visit solo at Christmastime is Riga. It’s the capital of Latvia, which is in the Baltic region of Eastern Europe.
This timeless city is one of the leading solo destinations at Christmas because it’s safe, charming, and not overcrowded with tourists. All the wonderful activities in Riga in December will leave you with endless memories!
The best way to get to Riga, Latvia, is to take the Lux Express, a bus service that travels throughout the Baltics to the city’s central bus station, or hop on a flight to Riga Airport. A great boutique hotel in the heart of Old Town Riga is Hestia Hotel Draugi.
