Complete Guide to Caribbean Hotels Pt 2: Puerto Rico – East and West
We have already explored hotels in San Juan, but now its time to go a little further. You must keep this in mind: Outside San Juan you won’t find hostel options. The cheapest accommodations outside San Juan starts on $55+
If you are looking to be closer to El Yunque and the East Coast, these are your best options:
El Conquistador
An amazing hotel located in Fajardo. It has its own water park and it is pretty close to the ferry that takes you to the islands of Vieques and Culebra and also to two of the Bioluminiscent Bays in the island. If you’re looking to be close to El Yunque, to Beaches and to the islands, this hotel will be perfect for you.
Gran Meliá
This is definitely one of my favorite hotels in the island. Is relaxed, quiet, about 10 minutes away from El Yunque Rainforrest and 35 minutes from San Juan. If you’re looking to enjoy the beach, the nature and have more privacy, this is the best hotel for you.
Riomar Beach Resort & Spa
This hotel isn’t far from Gran Meliá, but if you ask me its a little bit different. Gran Meliá is more quiet, and I feel this is a little bit more partying. I love the pool of this hotel, I think it is amazing to be there even when its raining. Location wise, as I said, either this or Gran Meliá are great options if you’re looking to be close to El Yunque.
Would you like to experience the West/Southwest to experience a different side of the island? These might be your options:
Rincon of the Seas
I don’t know if its me but I am totally in love with Rincon. Rincon is a a beach town where surfers tend to go and if you come from the States you won’t feel like a foreigner, because most of the business, bars, guesthouse in the town are owned by US natives. Rincon can be a party place and it can be relaxed, it all depends where you stay. Rincon of the Seas is one of the biggest hotels in the area but it offers perfect amenities for all the family. I totally recomend not to skip Rincon if you visit Puerto Rico
Mayaguez Resort
One of the most famous hotels in the west coast. Another hotel I like because of its pool. Mayaguez Resort is known by its service and it is located close to major attractions in the west such as the beaches in Cabo Rojo, the Mayaguez zoo, the Aguadilla Ice Skating, the Waterpark Cascadas de Aguadilla and the major brewery in the island, Cervecera de Puerto Rico. I will totally suggest this hotel to be close to this attractions. The west of the island have a magic of its own.
Western Bay Boqueron Beach
Boqueron is another beach town that you might need to see. One of the biggest Gay Pride Parade in the island is held there. Is a Gay friendly town filled with bars, amazing restaurants and of course, beach! I totally recommend this town if you’re looking where to party, and Western Bay is one of the hotels that have most of the amenities you’re looking for.
Parguera Plaza Hotel
In La Parguera you can find the other Bioluminiscent Bay that is the island. Plus, La Parguera is a vibrant town filled with great bars, good music and amazing restaurants, and the best part? Is pretty cheap! I definitely recommend Parguera Plaza Hotel if you’re looking forward to have an amazing balance party vacation surrounded with nature as well.
I hope this guide help you plan amazing vacations on Puerto Rico
